Box Score The Loras College Duhawks came to River Forest on Sunday afternoon and handed the Dominican University men’s soccer team their worst defeat in nearly nine years, topping the Stars 5-0.
Loras left little doubt, scoring the first goal of the afternoon in the fifth minute as Camilo Garces crossed a ball from the right flank right to the head of Chris Comstock who notched his third goal of the season.
Less than four minutes later, Donald St. George put the Duhawks up 2-nil. In the 24
th minute, Brad Joiner netted the first of his two goals of the game, and Loras had a 3-0 lead at the half.
Joiner added his team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 51
st minute to increase the Duhawks’ lead to 4-0. Then in the 70
th minute Forrest Olson earned a corner for Loras, just their second of the game, and then connected with Kyle Marxkors who put a header into the back of the Stars’ goal for the 5-0 shutout victory.
The Duhawks ripped 16 shots on the afternoon, putting eight on goal, while Dominican managed just ten shots, putting two on frame.
The last time Dominican gave up five goals was October 11, 2002, when the Stars were on the short side of a 6-1 match against the Trinity University (TX) Tigers in San Antonio.
The loss drops Dominican to 11-2-0, while Loras improves to 11-1-2 on the season. The Stars return to action on Wednesday, taking on the Aurora University Spartans in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) play. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Dominican’s West Campus Field.
