On Monday night, the Dominican University Department of Athletics announced that Fred Huebner has agreed to provide play-by-play of the Stars’ Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Men’s Soccer Tournament semifinal match against the Aurora University Spartans that will take place on Tuesday afternoon..
Huebner, a familiar voice in the Chicago sports scene, was the play-by-play announcer for the Chicago Fire from 2007 through 2009 and has worked as the public address Chicago Ravens women’s softball team, Chicago Cheetah’s roller hockey team and fill-in for the Chicago Wolves at the All-State Arena in addition to over 30 years in the Chicago radio scene. Huebner is currently working as a co-host on ESPN 1000.
Huebner is familiar with Division III Soccer and the Dominican University Stars, calling the first two rounds of the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championships for Dominican in November 2009, calling the Stars’ overtime win over Elmhurst College and second round victory over the UW-Whitewater Warhawks.
“We are excited to have the opportunity to have a professional such as Fred add another dimension to our webcasts,” said Ken Trendel, the Sports Information Director at Dominican University. “The video we have been offering this season is a nice option for our fans that can’t make it to the games, but having a professional to add play-by-play to our stream takes the viewers much closer to the action.”
Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday on Dominican’s West Campus Field. To catch the action live on the web, visit the Stars on the web at
