Brandon Barkley (Detroit, Mich.) and senior Darius Nelson (Michigan City, Ind.) paced the Stars in the losing effort with 15 points apiece.
The Stars trailed by as many as 36 (70-34) with over 14 minutes remaining in the second half before cutting the lead to 13 behind 62 percent shooting from the field in the second half while connecting on 5-of-8 shots from behind the arc in the second stanza.
The Maroons nearly doubled up the Stars on the glass, outrebounding Dominican 42-25 and grabbing 18 offensive rebounds that led to 17 second chance points for Chicago while the Stars managed just five offensive rebounds and two second chance points.
Dominican will host the University of Dubuque Spartans on Friday for the Stars’ home opener as part of the River Forest Classic. The Stars will then travel down Division Street to take UW-Whitewater Warhawks on Saturday afternoon.
