Box Score Trailing the Maranatha Baptist Bile College Crusaders 54-41 with 12 minutes remaining in the second half
Brandon Barkley (Detroit, Mich.) scored next nine points for the Dominican University men’s basketball team to spark an 18-2 run that spanned 4:02 and gave the Stars’ their first lead of the contest, 59-56 en route to a 77-71 win for the Stars.
Barkley, a 6-6 freshman, finished the night with a career-high 21 points on 8-for-10 shooting from the field and converting on five of seven attempts from the charity stripe.
Dominican outscored the Crusaders 50-36 in the second half, shooting 15-for-28 from the field, including 5-for-10 from three, while making good on 15 of 19 attempts from the free throw line. The Stars held the Crusaders to 1-for-13 shooting from three-point distance.
Darius Nelson (Michigan City, Ind.) led all scorers with a game-high 26 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the field. The Stars’ senior guard converted 10 of 12 from the charity stripe and added four assists, three steals and three rebounds in the winning effort.
Kevin Blackowicz (Mundelein, Ill.) came off the bench for Dominican to chip in 11 points on 3-of-6 shooting from three.
The Crusaders were paced by Joel Borchardt’s 23 points and nine rebounds.
The win lifts the Stars to 1-8 overall and 1-3 in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC). The Stars return to action on Saturday, December 17, traveling to Jacksonville, Ill., to take on Blackburn College in a non-conference tilt.
