Box Score 2 The Dominican University men’s basketball team headed to Southern Illinois to take on a pair of St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) opponents this weekend, falling to the MacMurray College Highlanders on Saturday afternoon 72-68 before rebounding on Sunday with a 71-53 victory over the Blackburn College Beavers.
On Saturday, the Stars trailed the Highlanders 48-38 with 11:45 to play before chipping into the lead, eventually evening the score at 62-62 on a jumper by Darius Nelson (Michigan City, Ind.) with 4:00 remaining.
Nelson later gave the Stars a 68-67 advantage with 1:22 left but the Stars would not score the rest of the way as MacMurray escaped with the four-point victory.
Nelson paced the Stars in the losing effort, putting up 16 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the field.
Logan Harris (Pleasant Plains, Ill.) logged his second double-double of the season, posting 10 points and 10 rebounds while freshman
Kevin Rollins (Bloomington, Ill.) chipped in 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists in 29 minutes off the Stars’ bench.
On Sunday, the Stars rode a 15-2 run over the game’s first six-and-a-half minutes and never looked back.
Harris paced the Stars on the offensive end of the floor, posting a season-high 19 points on 9-for-13 shooting from the field. Nelson and
Brandon Barkley (Detroit, Mich.) added ten points apiece while
Taylor DeRoo (Holland, Mich.) chipped in 14 points in his first start since November 29.
The Stars, now 2-9 on the season, will host Cornell College on Monday, January 2. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in the Igini Sports Forum.
