Rockford College’s Taylor Dixon three-pointer from the corner broke a 69-all tie with 2:43 to play and the Regents scored the final eight points of the game to escape River Forest with a 77-69 win, handing the Dominican University men’s basketball team their fourth straight loss and dropping the Stars to 7-14 on the season and 4-9 in the Northern Athletics Conference.
The Stars went 0-for-4 down the stretch and committed their 16th turnover of the game with 15 seconds remaining and trailing by five.
For the Regents, Dixon’s three was the final field goal of the contest, as the Regents went 5-for-8 from the free throw line in the final 40 seconds to seal the victory.
Rockford’s Robert Malone led all scorers, pouring in 31 points on 10-for-24 shooting from the field while going 10-for-11 from the charity stripe. Malone added a game-high 14 rebounds for his second double-double against the Stars this season.
For the Stars, Marquis Turley (Grand Rapids, Mich.) led a balanced offensive attack, scoring 15 points, making good on eight of his 11 attempts from the free throw line. Darrius Nelson (Michigan City, Ind.) added 13 while Taylor DeRoo (Holland, Mich.) and Logan Harris (Pleasant Plains, Ill.) chipped in 12 and 10 points respectively.
