The Dominican University women’s tennis team, playing in their final match before the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Women’s Tennis Team Tournament, fell to the Benedictine University Eagles on Sunday afternoon 7-2.
Rachel Taddy (Cary, Ill.) and
Courtney Bates (Bolingbrook, Ill.) picked up the only points for the Stars at numbers two and six singles respectively. Taddy, a freshman from Cary-Grove, improved to 7-9 in singles play topping Benedictine’s Ewelina Stachulak 6-7, 6-4, 10-6. The win snapped a four-match losing streak for Taddy while handing Stachulak the loss in her first action at number two singles for the Eagles.
Bates, appearing in just her second singles match of the season, topped Benedictine’s Nicole Choinka 6-2, 6-3 to improve to 1-1 in singles play.
The Stars will have over a month to prepare for their NAC quarterfinal matchup with the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons. The Stars, who finished sixth in the NAC during the regular season, snagged the final spot in the NAC Tournament and will have to travel to Mequon, Wis., to take on the Falcons on May 3. The winner advances to the semifinals which takes place on May 6 in Kohler, Wis.
