Phipps and Meyer Jumpstart Offense In Win Over Warriors

Box Score Liz Phipps (Bloomington, Ill.) netted her first career hat trick and Ashley Meyer (Evanston, Ill.) added a pair of goals herself as the Dominican University women’s soccer team improved to 1-0-0 in the Northern Athletics Conference with a 5-1 win over the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors.

Phipps got the offensive outburst started with her first goal of the season in the 11th minute and then quickly gave the Stars a 2-nil advantage as she tallied her second score of the game just two minutes later.

The scoring slowed down until the 41st minute when Meyer got in on the act, netting her third goal of the season to give the Stars a 3-0 advantage at the half.

Dominican kept up the pressure early in the second half with Meyer tallying her second score of the match in the 55th minute followed by Phipps’ final goal of the game in the 59th.

Emily Seidler closed out the scoring, cutting the Warriors’ deficit to 5-1 in the 72nd minute.

Dominican dominated possession and the stat sheet, rattling off 24 shots, 13 on goal, to just three shots for the Warriors.

With the win, Dominican now stands at 2-3-0 on the season, riding a two-match win streak heading into a Saturday meeting with the Edgewood College Eagles in Madison, Wis.  The match is slated for an 11:00 a.m. kickoff on the the Eagles’ Breese Stevens Field.
