The Dominican University women’s tennis team posted a pair of Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) victories on Saturday, topping the Marian University Sabres and Lakeland College Muskies by 7-2 scores.
Against the Sabres on Saturday morning,
Elizabeth Nelson (Riverside, Ill.) and Kornelia Nowczyk (Konin, Poland) edged the Sabres number one doubles team 8-6 while freshmen
Jennifer LoRusso (Burbank, Ill.) and
Rosemary Orchanian (Portage, Mich.) improved to 5-2 in NAC play at number three doubles with an 8-3 win to give the Stars a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play.
In singles action, Nelson picked up a point at number one singles with a 6-3, 7-6 win while
Rachel Taddy (Cary, Ill.) and
Emily Hereford (St. Louis, Mo.) squeaked out wins at numbers three and four singles.
Marbeya Berner (New Lenox, Ill.) remained unbeaten in NAC singles play with a 6-0, 6-1 win at number six singles.
In the afternoon match against the Muskies, Orchanian and LoRusso ran their winning streak to four matches at number three doubles with an 8-1 win. Taddy and
Jillian Metcalf (Oak Lawn, Ill.) then gave the Stars a 2-1 advantage after doubles with an 8-6 win. In singles play, Taddy and Berner led the charge as the Stars swept flights two through six to improve to 6-4 overall and 5-3 in the NAC.
The Stars will travel to Rockford College on Wednesday to take on the Regents in NAC play. Dominican will then host neighborhood rival Concordia Chicago on Saturday. Dominican stands in fourth place in the conference with just two weeks and three NAC matches remaining on the schedule.
