The Dominican University Stars traveled to Madison, Wis., on Monday to take on the Edgewood College Eagles and the Lawrence University Vikings in women’s tennis action. In a Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) battle, the Stars came up on the short end of a 5-4 match against the Eagles with Edgewood’s Taylor Storbakken edging Dominican’s
Emily Hereford (St. Louis, Mo.) 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 at number four singles to seal the victory for the Eagles.
The freshmen combination of
Rosemary Orchanian (Portage, Mich.) and
Jennifer LoRusso (Burbank, Ill.) improved to 2-1 in NAC play at number three doubles with a convincing 8-1 victory over Edgewood’s Amber Fiene and Kristal Kryshak. However, the Stars trailed 2-1 after doubles.
In singles play, Orchanian knocked off her Edgewood counterpart 6-0, 6-2 at number five singles while
Rachel Taddy (Cary, Ill.) and
Marbeya Berner (New Lenox, Ill.) also pulled out wins at number three singles and number six singles respectively. Taddy is a perfect 3-0 in NAC singles play on the season, with two wins at number two singles.
In the non-conference tilt against the Vikings in the afternoon, the Stars were blanked by the Vikings, one of four consecutive shutout victories for the Vikings this season.
The Stars will return to action on Saturday, September 10, when Dominican plays host to the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors and Alverno College Inferno in a pair of NAC duals.
