Box Score Darrius Nelson (Michigan City, Ind.) scored a team-high 18 points to lead the Dominican University men’s basketball team to a 71-66 come-from-behind victory over the visiting Cornell College Rams on Monday afternoon.
The Stars trailed 58-50 with 7:45 to play before going on a 7-0 run including a Matt Kuzniar (Wheaton, Ill.) three to narrow the gap before eventually taking 65-62 lead on a Nelson three-pointer with just over two-and-a-half minutes remaining. Dominican then went a perfect 6-for-6 at the foul line to claim the win.
Nelson was 6-for-10 from the field, including 2-for-4 from three-point distance, and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line.
Taylor DeRoo (Holland, Mich.) chipped in 13 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out four assists and logged two steals, including a steal with :20 remaining and the Stars clinging to a three-point lead, while
Logan Harris (Pleasant Plains, Ill.) and
Kevin Tiongson (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) chipped in 11 and ten points respectively in the winning effort.
Reggie Greenwood led the Rams with 22 points.
Dominican, now 3-9 on the season, returns to Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) play on Saturday. The Stars will host the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons for a 4:15 p.m. tipoff in the Igini Sports Forum.
