MSOE Squeaks Past the Stars

Box Score Trailing 57-55 in the final minute of regulation, the Dominican University Stars had two chances to even the score with the MSOE Raiders but could not put the ball in the basket, falling for the second time this week.

After the Raiders Cynerick Osinaike knifed down the lane to give the Raiders a two-point lead with 0:47 to play, Dominican's Darrius Nelson (Michigan City, Ind.) could not get his runner in the lane to fall but Taylor DeRoo (Holland, Mich.) stole the Raiders' outlet pass and was sent to the line with a chance to even the score.  After DeRoo missed both ends of the double-bonus the Stars fouled and MSOE's Nathan Verdun missed the front-end of a one-and-one to give the Stars one final opportunity with 0:32 left. However, the Raiders forced Nelson into a desperation toss from 24-feet that did not fall.

Kyle Sherwin (White Lake, Mich.) paced the Stats offense with 12 points on 4-for-10 shooting from the field.  However, as a team, Dominican shot just over 37 percent (17-45) from the field.

The Stars return to action on Saturday, hosting the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors for a 4:15 p.m. tipoff in the Igini Sports Forum.
