Matt Kuzniar jump-started the Stars' offense with a three with 13:51 to play in the opening half. Dominican went on to score the next 13 points to even the score at 13-13 with just under 12 minutes to play in the first half.
Dominican eventually took a brief lead, 23-22, on a
Kyle Sherwin free throw at the 5:25 mark but the Cougars quickly rattled off the next five points to reclaim the lead for the remainder of the night, en route to a 67-55 win over the Stars in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) men's basketball action.
Darrius Nelson and
Brandon Barkley led the Stars' offense with 13 points apiece. Nelson, going 4-for-14 from the field on the night, became the latest player to join the Dominican University 1,000-point club as he scored his first basket of the night with 12:51 remaining in the first half.
As a team, the Stars managed to shoot just 31.5 percent from the field (17-54) and committed a season-high 20 turnovers on the night.
The loss drops Dominican to 3-15 on the season and 1-9 in NAC play. On Saturday, the Stars will travel to Madison, Wis., to take on the Edgewood College Eagles. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. in the Edgedome.
