Box Score The Dominican University men's soccer team's nine-game winning streak was snapped on Monday evening as the Stars came up on the short side of a 3-2 tilt with the Loras College Duhawks in Dubuque.
The Duhawks put two early goals on the Stars as Kevin Cavers and Brad Joiner scored just six minutes apart (5th and 11th respectively) to put Dominican in a 2-nil hole.
Dominican finally found the back of the net in the 28th minute as
Luiz Montoya (Blue Island, Ill.) was able to gather a loose ball inside the Duhawks' 18-yard box after a long throw put the Stars in striking distance. The tally was Montoya's first of the season and cut the Duhawks' lead to one goal.
Loras and Joiner responded just eighty seconds later as the Duhawk senior collected a rebound and beat Dominican's
Wesley Zank (Sun Prairie, Wis.) for his second goal of the game.
The Stars would get another tally in the 56th minute as
David Aranda (Wheeling, Ill.) got on the end of an
Enzo Berrini (Bolingbrook, Ill.) free kick and pushed a header inside the near post.
The loss drops the Stars to 11-2-1 on the season while Loras improves to 15-1-1. Dominican will return to action tomorrow as Rockford College travels to River Forest for a 3:00 p.m. match on the Stars' home pitch.
