Box Score The Dominican University men's soccer team picked up its 24th straight Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) win on Tuesday afternoon, topping the Benedictine University Eagles, 5-0. The win, the sixth consecutive shutout for the Stars this season, improves Dominican to 8-1-1 overall and 5-0-0 in the NAC.
The Stars dominated the stat sheet in the win, pelting the Benedictine University goal with 35 shots while surrendering just one shot to the Eagles. Dominican was able to put 13 shots on goal and took 15 corners without surrendering a single corner kick to Benedictine.
Marco Alvarez (Aurora, Ill.), who had two goals in the Stars' win over Marian on Saturday, notched his third goal of season, netting what proved to be the game-winner in the 16th minute as
Leo Elizalde (Waukegan, Ill.) collected a failed clearance attempt by the Eagles and slid a ball along the top of the six-yard box to Alvarez who one-timed a shot into the back of the goal.
In the 39th minute,
Carmelo DiFranco (Addison, Ill.) tallied the first of his two goals in the contest, taking on three defenders in the box before sliding a shot on the ground inside the far post.
Two minutes into the second half, DiFranco extended the Stars' lead to 3-0.
Ryan Roberts (Elmhurst, Ill.) and
Andy Lynch (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) added insurance goals for the Stars in the final seven minutes of the game to round out the Stars' scoring.
