Box Score The Dominican University men’s soccer team closed out the 2012 regular season with a bang on Wednesday afternoon, posting an 8-0 victory over visiting neighborhood rival the Concordia University Chicago Cougars. The win was the Stars’ 30
th straight victory over a Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) opponent as Dominican closed out their second consecutive perfect season in conference play, going 11-0-0 in the NAC and 14-2-1 overall.
Ryan Roberts (Elmhurst, Ill.) ignited the offense in the eighth minute, netting what proved to be the game-winner. It was Roberts’ team-leading 11
th goal of the season and third game-winner.
Logan Marvin (Johnston, Iowa) notched the first of his two goals in the game in the 36
th minute to give the Stars a 2-0 lead at half.
Mario Toro (Katy, Texas),
Leo Elizalde (Wheeling, Ill.),
Marco Alvarez (Aurora, Ill.),
Neftali Alejandre (Chicago, Ill.) and
Patrick McLaughlin (Oak Lawn, Ill.) rounded out the scoring as the Stars put six goals in the back of the Cougars’ goal in the second half. Both Alvarez and Toro added a pair of assists as the freshman combined for a total of eight points in the winning effort.
The Stars will now sit idle in the opening round of the 2012 NAC Men’s Soccer Tournament that opens play on Sunday. The Stars will host the lowest remaining seed in the tournament in the semifinals on Wednesday, October 31, for a 1:30 p.m. match on the Stars’ West Campus Field.
