Box Score The Dominican University men’s soccer team picked up its seventh straight shutout victory on Saturday afternoon, topping the Lakeland College Muskies 10-0 in an impressive offensive performance for the Stars.
Carmelo DiFranco (Addison, Ill.) and
Ryan Roberts (Elmhurst, Ill.) each netted a hat trick for the Stars in the winning effort. Roberts also added three assists for a total of nine points in the winning effort.
Freshman
Marco Alvarez (Aurora, Ill.) added two goals, including the game-winner in the tenth minute of play, and two assists of his own.
Mitch Corsten (Bloomingdale, Ill.) and
Ryan Ybarra (Des Plaines, Ill.) rounded out the Stars’ scoring. For Corsten, it was his first career collegiate tally.
The Stars completely overpowered the Muskies, outshooting Lakeland 31-2 and holding an 11-0 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
Senior goalkeeper
Max Gutbrod (Slinger, Wis.) lowered his conference-best goals against average to 0.33 and improved to 8-1-0 in goal for the Stars with seven shutouts.
Dominican now stands at 9-1-1 on the season and a perfect 6-0-0 in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC), running their NAC unbeaten streak to 96 and NAC winning streak to 25 matches. The Stars return to action on October 10, traveling to Aurora to take on the Aurora University Spartans. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Spartans Vago Field.
