Box Score For the second straight game, the Dominican University women's basketball team dug a huge hole early, falling behind 15-0 in the first six and a half minutes and falling to the North Park University Vikings 79-51.
The Stars offense finally got going with a three-point play by
Laura Knieps (Tinley Park, Ill.) to cut the Vikings' lead to 15-2 with 13:21 to play in the first half.
Dominican twice cut the Vikings' lead to ten in the first half, including 31-21 with just under five minutes remaining in the half as
Siri Borrud (Deerfield, Wis.) knocked down a three. However, the Vikings outscored Dominican 8-4 to close out the half with a 39-25 lead.
North Park continued to pull away in the second half, shooting near 45-percent from the field, 13-for-29, over the final twenty minutes to cruise to the win.
Dominican was led by Knieps's 12 points on 4-for-9 shooting from the field and going 3-for-5 from the foul line. Borrud chipped in 11 points, including nine in the first half, while Stacy Reynolds (LaGrange, Ill.) added ten points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds in the losing effort.
Dana Christiansen led four players in double-figures for the Vikings, scoring 14 points, on 4-for-7 shooting from the field, including going 2-for-3 from three-point distance.
The loss drops the Stars to 0-2 while North Park improves to 2-0. Dominican will return to action on Tuesday, traveling to Albion to take on the Britons. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET.
