Box Score The Dominican University men’s basketball team fell, 83-64, to the University of Chicago Maroons in non-conference action on Monday night. The Maroons shot a blistering 69.4-percent from the field, ripping the net for 9-of-13 shooting from behind the three-point arc.
Dominican hung around the Maroons for until Alex Pyper’s three put Chicago on top 28-18 with six minutes to play in the first half and ignited a 15-4 run for the Maroons to close out the first half and extend the Chicago lead to 40-22 at the break.
Early in the second half,
Josh Ward’s (Burr Ridge, Ill.) three-point play cut the Maroon lead down to 14 at 44-30, but back-to-back three’s by Chicago’s Pyper and Charlie Hughes doused Dominican’s run at a comeback.
Sam Gage led four players in double-figures for the Maroons with 16 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field, including 2-for-3 from three-point range. Hughes and Pyper added 14 and 13 respectively, shooting a combined 11-for-11 from the field and going 4-for-4 from three.
Logan Harris (Pleasant Plains, Ill.) paced the Stars with a game-high 17 points in the losing effort. Ward, Harris’ front-court running mate, dropped in 14, going 3-for-6 from three-point distance.
Dominican, riding a three-game losing streak, will look to regroup over a 12-day break between games. The Stars will be back on the court on December 29, traveling to San Antonio, Texas, to play Southwestern and Trinity universities in the Trinity Holiday Classic on December 29 and 30. The Stars take on Southwestern on December 29 and Trinity on December 30.
