Host Trinity Bests Stars To End Texas Swing

Box Score The Dominican University men's basketball team finished off the 2012 Trinity Classic Tournament on Sunday afternoon, falling to the host Trinity University Tigers 72-60.

With the Stars ahead 24-22 after an Anthony Keener (Carol Stream, Ill.), the host Tigers finished off the first half with an 13-2 run over the final 6:25 to make it 35-26 at the break. Neither team led by more than five points prior to that run, as the game featured four ties and several lead changes in the opening 20 minutes.

Trinity shot just over 46% in both halves, holding Dominican under 38% for the game. The Stars hit 5-of-10 three-point shots in the first half, but managed to convert just 4-of-15 in the second.

Midway through the second half, Trinity pushed the lead to 16 points (48-32) with nine unanswered points, but the Stars answered, scoring 14 straight out of a timeout to cut the lead to just two, 48-46, with 8:13 remaining.

However, the Tigers never surrendered the lead, regaining control with a 16-5 run to lead 64-51 with less than five minutes to play.

Heath Hopson paced Trinity's attack with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Hopson hit 5-of-8 from the field and 3-of-4 from the foul line in his 25 minutes off the bench.

Kevin Tiongson (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) led Dominican with 16 points, hitting 4-of-6 from three-point range, but was held to just four points in the second half. Taylor DeRoo (Holland, Mich.) scored 15, while Keener finished with 10 points and six assists in the loss.

Dominican returns to River Forest and will begin the 2013 portion of their schedule on Wednesday, January 2nd, hosting the Greenville College Panthers in non-conference action.
