Box Score The Dominican University men’s basketball team posted an impressive 85-66 win over the Benedictine University Eagles on Wednesday in River Forest.
Darrius Nelson (Michigan City, Ind.) and
Kyle Sherwin (White Lake, Mich.) combined to score 46 points on 17-for-28 shooting from the field as Dominican knocked off the defending Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) South Division Champions and current Division front-runners to improve to 4-19 on the season and 2-11 in conference play.
The Eagles, who were tied for the NAC South Division lead with Rockford College entering the night, were paced by Nate Green’s 25 points on 10-for-17 shooting from the field.
Dominican opened up a 42-31 lead at the break as sophomore
Matt Kuzniar (Wheaton, Ill.) closed out the first half with back-to-back three’s to give the Stars a cushion heading into halftime.
Dominican continued to punish Benedictine from long range in the second half, going 5-for-8 from behind the three-point stripe led by Sherwin and
Logan Harris (Pleasant Plains, Ill.) who were 2-for-2 from distance each.
As a team, Dominican was a blistering 32-for-54 from the field on the night, going 9-for-16 from three, and made good on 12 of 15 attempts from the foul line. The Stars’ set single-game marks on the season for field goal percentage (.593), field goals (32) and three-point field goal percentage (.562).
The Stars will return to action on Saturday, hosting the Aurora University Spartans in another NAC South battle. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
