Sophomore nets hat-trick in win over Edgewood

Box Score The Dominican University men’s soccer team built upon its NCAA-record conference unbeaten mark, extending their streak to 91-matches with a 4-0 shutout victory over the Edgewood College Eagles to open Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) play on Saturday afternoon.

After Ryan Roberts (Elmhurst, Ill.) tallied his third goal of the season to give the Stars a 1-0 advantage in just the fifth minute of play, Ryan Ybarra (Des Plaines, Ill.) tallied the next three scores, netting goals in the 30th, 51st and 52nd minutes.

Dominican’s defense surrendered just nine shots, including one shot on goal to their NAC counterpart, while ripping 24 shots of their own and putting 15 on frame.

Senior goalkeeper Max Gutbrod (Slinger, Wis.) improved to 2-1-0 on the season while picking up his first shutout of the season and 20th of his career.

The Stars return to play on Tuesday, hosting the Wheaton College Thunder, ranked 15th in this week’s NSCAA/Continental Tires Division III Top 25 Poll, for a 4:00 p.m. tilt on Dominican’s West Campus Field.  The Stars and Thunder have played seven matches, with Dominican holding a 5-2-0 record in the all-time series.
