Baumann Nets 300th Win As Stars Blank Marian

Box Score The Dominican University men’s soccer team posted its fifth straight shutout on Saturday afternoon, blanking the Marian University Sabres, 4-0, to pick up career win number 300 for Erick Baumann, the Stars’ head coach since 1995.  Baumann becomes the 37th coach in NCAA Division III all-time to win 300 games, improving to 300-67-22 on his career.

“Erick’s teams and accomplishments continue to be a source of pride for the entire university,” said Donna M. Carroll, president of Dominican University. “As an alumnus and as a coach, he represents all the best characteristics of a Dominican education—integrity, compassion, high standards and solid values. It proves that these principles lead to unquestioned success, on and off the field.”

In Saturday’s win, freshman Marco Alvarez (Aurora, Ill.) notched his first two collegiate goals, including what proved to be the game-winner as he broke a scoreless tie in the 24th minute.

Dominican carried the 1-0 lead into the second half before freshman Billy Eddy (Gurnee, Ill.) netted his third goal in as many games less than a minute into the second half.

Alvarez’s second goal of the game, put the Stars ahead 3-nil in the 52nd minute and Andy Lynch (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) capped the Stars’ scoring with his sixth tally of the season in the 70th minute.

Max Gutbrod (Slinger, Wis.) posted his fifth shutout of the season, as he logged two saves on the afternoon, lowering his goals against average to 0.42.

Baumann’s Stars now stand at 7-1-1 on the season and 4-0-0 in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC).  The Stars will return to action on Tuesday, October 2, hosting the Benedictine University Eagles for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff.  Dominican will then honor Baumann on Saturday, prior to the Stars’ homecoming match against Lakeland.  Coverage for both games will be available on the DUstars.com website.
