Stars Sweep NAC Duals As They Fight For NAC Postseason Berth

The Dominican University women’s tennis team swept a pair of Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) duals on Saturday, blanking the Rockford College Regents 9-0 in the morning before topping the MSOE Raiders 8-1 in the afternoon.  The wins keeps the Stars in contention for a spot in the six-team NAC Tournament played in the spring with just one regular season conference match remaining.

In the win over Rockford, the Stars flexed the muscles all match, surrendering just a total of three games in the entire match.  Dominican won the numbers one and two doubles flights by 8-1 counts and won by default at number three doubles.

In singles play, Rachel Taddy (Cary, Ill.), Marbeya Berner (New Lenox, Ill.) and Rosemary Orchanian all shutout their Regent counterparts, winning 6-0, 6-0 at numbers one, two and three singles respectively.  Monica Budzak (Chicago, Ill.) also cruised at number four singles, winning 6-1, 6-0 while the Stars picked up default victories at numbers five and six singles to complete the shutout.

In the afternoon match against the Raiders, the bottom half of the Stars’ lineup continued to dominate with Berner, Budzak and Orchanian dropping a total of just three games at four, five and six singles.  Taddy and Emily Hereford (St. Louis, Mo.) fought for victories at one and two singles respectively with Taddy winning in a three-set super-tiebreaker, 4-6, 7-6, 10-8.

The wins improve the Stars to 6-5 overall and 6-4 in NAC play, putting the Stars into a tie for fifth place with the Aurora University Spartans and just a half game ahead of the Benedictine University Eagles.  Dominican will close out the NAC regular season on Wednesday, October 3, when the Stars host the Aurora University Spartans.   The winner claims a spot in the NAC team tournament while the loser drops into a tie for the sixth and final spot with the Eagles.
