Stars Split NAC Duals

The Dominican University women’s tennis team split a pair of Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) dual matches on Saturday, falling to the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors 6-3 before topping the Alverno College Inferno 7-2 to pick up their first win of the young season.
 
In the morning match against Wisconsin Lutheran, Jillian Metcalf (Oak Lawn, Ill.) and Rosemary Orchanian (Portage, Mich.) picked up wins in singles action at number three and six singles respectively after the Stars number three doubles team of Emily Hereford (St. Louis, Mo.) and Stephanie Castaneda (Mendota, Ill.) picked up the lone point for the Stars in doubles action at the number three doubles flight.
 
In the afternoon victory over Alverno, the Stars took a 3-0 lead after doubles play before tacking on wins at numbers one, four, five and six singles.  Orchanian improved to 2-1 in singles play on the season with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Alverno’s Ashley Schmeling.  Rachel Taddy (Cary, Ill.) picked up her first career victory at number one singles, topping the Inferno’s Tricia Goska 6-1, 6-2.
 
The split pushes the Stars’ record to 1-2 on the season with Dominican returning to action on Sunday.  The Stars will host the Benedictine University Eagles for a 12:00 p.m. NAC match at Taylor Park.
