Stars Hold Off Rockford To Win Third Straight

Box Score The Dominican University men’s basketball team picked up its third straight victory on Tuesday night, holding off the Rockford College Regents for a 65-62 win.  Anthony Keener (Carol Stream, Ill.) poured in a game-high 25 points, connecting on a season-high 5-for-6 from behind the three-point stripe, and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season in the winning effort.
 
Keener and the Stars shot 7-for-13 from long range as Dominican built up a 13-point lead at the break, 32-19.
 
Leading 34-22 with 18:07 to play, Rockford went on an 8-0 run capped by a Scott Dixon layup with 16:06 remaining to cut the Stars’ lead to 34-30.
 
Dominican’s Kevin Tiongson (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) snapped the Rockford run with a three to push the Stars’ lead to seven.
 
The Stars led by as many as nine in the final five minutes, but Rockford refused to go quietly, forcing the Stars to go 7-for-10 from the foul line in the final minute to seal the victory.
 
Taylor DeRoo (Holland, Mich.), averaging 19.0 points per game over the Stars’ three-game winning streak, scored 19 in the winning effort on 7-for-9 shooting from the field and converting on 5-for-7 attempts from the free throw line.  Logan Harris (Pleasant Plains, Ill.) added ten points and eight rebounds for the Stars.
 
Dixon paced the Regents with 18 points on 8-for-19 shooting from the field and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.  As a team, the Regents converted on 26-for-67 attempts from the field, including just 3-for-16 from three-point range.
 
The Stars, now 7-10 overall and 5-4 in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) play, are back in action on Saturday, traveling to Mequon, Wis., to take on the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons.  Tipoff is slated for 4:15 p.m. in a matchup of the number two team in the NAC North hosts the number two team in the NAC South.
