Balanced Effort Leads Stars To Fourth Straight Win

Box Score The Dominican University men’s basketball team improved to 8-10 overall and 6-4 in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC), posting a 67-59 win over the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons on the road on Saturday evening.  The win was the Stars’ fourth consecutive win and fifth in Dominican’s last six games.

The Stars, who led by as many as 19 in the final four minutes, had four reach double figures.  Anthony Keener (Carol Stream, Ill.), Taylor DeRoo (Holland, Mich.) and Logan Harris (Pleasant Plains, Ill.) all shared team-high honors with 14 points apiece while Kevin Tiongson (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) dropped in 13 in the winning effort.

Defensively, Dominican held the Falcons’ offense below 40-percent from the field until the Falcons went 6-for-7 from the field in the final three minutes, as the Falcons closed the game on a 15-4 run before running out of time.

Concordia Wisconsin, paced by Malcolm Bowers’ game-high 15 points, shot 24-for-54 from the field, despite going just 3-for-14 from three-point distance.  The Stars, also 24-for-54 from the field, were 5-for-15 from three, made six more trips to the free throw line, converting on 14-for-18 attempts from the charity stripe.

The Stars, in second place in the NAC South Division, return to the hardwood on Wednesday when they host the Benedictine University Eagles.  Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. in the Igini Sports Forum.
