Stars Secure NAC Berth Despite Back-To-Back Losses

Box Score Despite suffering a 76-63 Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) loss at Wisconsin Lutheran College on Tuesday night, the Dominican University men’s basketball team wrapped up their fourth trip to the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Men’s Basketball Tournament in the last seven seasons with a 7-6 record in conference play.
 
On Tuesday night, the Stars fell behind 35-21 at half after shooting just 9-for-28 in the opening stanza while the Warriors connected on 16 of 28 shots from the field to open the 14-point lead.
 
Anthony Keener (Carol Stream, Ill.), after struggling in the opening period, poured in 19 second half points to lead a Dominican comeback effort that ultimately fell short.  Keener drew the Stars to within six, 61-55, with under six minutes to play.  Two possessions later Taylor DeRoo (Holland, Mich.) narrowed the gap to 62-57 with a jumper but then the Warriors went on a 12-2 run over the next four minutes to put the game out of reach.
 
Keener finished the night with a game-high 21 points on 8-for-20 shooting from the field while DeRoo added 14 in the losing effort.
 
Tim Demuth paced three players in double-figures for the Warriors with 17 points on 6-for-12 shooting, going 3-for-7 from beyond the three point arc.  Nate Bauer added 14 for the Warriors while Kyle Stelse dropped in 11 points off the bench.
 
Dominican maintains a slight half-game lead over the Warriors for second place in the NAC South Division with the Warriors at 6-5 in conference play.  The Stars, 9-12 overall, return to the hardwood on Saturday, traveling to Milwaukee, Wis., to take on the MSOE Raiders.  Tipoff is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
