The Dominican University women's tennis team rolled over the Concordia University Chicago Cougars, 7-2 on Tuesday evening, securing the sixth and final spot in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Women's Tennis Tournament as the Stars improved to 5-6 in conference play.
Dominican claimed a 2-1 advantage after doubles play, taking the second and third doubles flights. The Stars' number two doubles combo of
Megan Hickey (Plainfield, Ill.) and
Natalie Bestler (Hinsdale, Ill.) routed Emma Renteria and Elizabeth Steinhoff 8-2 to improve to 8-3 against conference opponents and snap a two-match losing skid.
Stephanie Castaneda (Mendota, Ill.) and
Katelyn Ratterman (Carol Stream, Ill.) blanked their number three doubles counterpart, 8-0.
In singles action, the Stars won at numbers two through six singles led by clean sweeps at flights two and four by
Marbeya Berner (New Lenox, Ill.) and Bestler. Berner is now 7-4 in NACC play, all at number two singles.
Tuesday's match closes out the Fall portion of the Stars' 2013-2014 schedule on a winning note. Dominican will return to the courts on March 29, hosting the Millikin University Big Blue for a non-conference dual with the NACC Tournament opening play on April 29. The Stars are now 5-8 under first year head coach Rebecca Morgan and returning to the conference tournament for the fourth time in as many years.
