Stars And Eagles Play To Scoreless Draw

Box Score The Dominican University men's soccer team dominated the stat sheet on Saturday afternoon, ripping 38 shots while giving up just eight, but could not get the result as the Stars played the visiting Edgewood College Eagles to a double-overtime draw.

"We didn't help ourselves in the final third of the field," said 19th-year head coach Erick Baumann when asked about the scoreless contest. "When you take 38 shots and only put four on frame…you're not getting it done. We need to make better decisions and have a more aggressive approach to create quality shots."

The Stars had a couple of golden opportunities slip away, including one early in the first overtime. Alex Rohder's (Orland Park, Ill.) throw into the Eagles' penalty box was flicked towards the back post where Marco Alvarez (Aurora, Ill.) had lost his defender before getting pulled down from behind.

Gabriel Gongora (Naperville, Ill.) picked up his fourth shutout of the season for Dominican, stopping all three shots that Edgewood managed to put on frame, including one in the first overtime. The Eagles' Matt Dahmen was equally impressive, facing 38 shots and logging four saves to pick up his third shutout of the season.

The draw pushes Dominican to 7-4-1 on the season and 5-1-1 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC). The Stars will host the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans on Tuesday in Dominican's final non-conference tilt of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on the Stars' West Campus Field. Dominican then returns to NACC play next Saturday, traveling to Rockford College to take on the Regents.
