Stars And Titans Play To Draw

Box Score The Dominican University men's soccer team played to its second consecutive scoreless draw on Tuesday afternoon, playing the visiting Illinois Wesleyan University Titans to a draw to move to 7-4-2 on the season.

"It was a defensive battle for both teams that created for an exciting, quality soccer match," said Erick Baumann, the Stars' head coach. "We kept the ball out of the back of our net but failed to capitalize on the few scoring opportunities we had."

Dominican has posted four consecutive shutouts and has given up just one goal in the last 570 minutes of play. Gabriel Gongora (Naperville, Ill.), the Stars' freshman goalkeeper, lowered his goals against average to 0.87, making two saves while facing 13 shots.

Gongora's counterpart, the Titan's Andrew Reed also logged two saves in the match to pick up his fifth shutout of the season.

The Stars managed ten shots in the match, including a dangerous opportunity in each overtime period. In the first overtime, Neftali Alejandre (Chicago, Ill.) split Titan defenders before sliding a toe-poke that rolled just wide of the near post. In the second overtime, Ryan Ybarra (Des Plaines, Ill.) got on the end of service from Gabriel Garcia (Chicago, Ill.) sending a header that IWU's Andrew Reed saved inside the near post.

Dominican returns to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action on Saturday, traveling to Rockford University to take on the Regents. Kickoff is slated for 11:00 a.m.
