The Dominican University department of athletics had two teams punch their tickets to the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) tournament championships this week, as men's soccer rolled past Concordia Wisconsin 5-0 on Tuesday in the semifinals and then volleyball steamrolled Wisconsin Lutheran 3-0 on Tuesday and toppled Benedictine 3-1 on Thursday to advance to the women's volleyball championship round.
This is the eighth straight appearance in the NACC Tournament championship match for men's soccer as they will
host the Edgewood College Eagles for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff on West Campus Field. The team's met earlier this year for Dominican University's Homecoming (October 12), with the teams playing to a thrilling double-overtime draw.
The Stars, 11-4-2 on the season, went 8-1-1 in NACC regular season action to claim a share of the program's ninth consecutive conference championship. Dominican has outscored their NACC counterparts on the season 23-5, with freshman goalkeeper Gabriel Gongora and the Stars' defense posting a 0.50 goals against average with five shutouts in ten NACC regular season matches.
On the volleyball court, the Stars are back in the NACC Tournament championship match for the fourth time in the last five seasons. Dominican claimed its only conference tournament championship back in 2010 when seniors Missy Budz, Claire Dezelski, Becca Fritz and Lauren Reiniger were freshmen. In order to return to the NCAA Division III National Tournament for the third time in program history, the Stars will have to go on the road to Madison, Wis., and knock off the top-seeded Edgewood College Eagles. The
match is also slated for a 1:00 p.m. start at Edgewood's Edgedome.
Dominican is now 23-9 on the season, going 10-1 in conference regular season action. On Wednesday, the NACC coaches named Dominican University's Claire Dezelski the NACC
Player of the Year and her teammate Cheyanne Kelly the NACC
Defensive Player of the Year.
Dominican and Edgewood will both provide live video and live statistics for the matches with links available on the
