Dominican Drops NACC Meeting With Defending Champs

Box Score Trailing just 51-48 at the half, the Dominican University men's basketball team was outscored 57-31 after the break to fall to the Aurora University Spartans 108-79 on Wednesday night.

After shooting over 48-percent from the field in the first half, the Stars went cold in the second period converting on just 7-of-31 field goal attempts over the final 20 minutes, including going 2-of-9 from behind the three-point stripe.

Freshman Josh Mayberry (Canton, Mich.) continued his stellar play in the loss, upping his team-best points per game in conference play to 18.5, as he poured in 26 points in the losing effort. Like the rest of his teammates though, Mayberry did most of his damage in the first half, scoring 17 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field and converting on 5-of-6 attempts from the free throw line before half.

Dominican cut an eight-point lead down to one in the final 1:30 of the first half as Mayberry knocked down a pair of free throws to pull the Stars within 49-48. The Spartans then scored the final two points of the first half and went on a 19-4 run over the first five minutes of the second half to put the Stars away.

Tyler Hall led the Spartans with 20 points, going 4-for-6 from three-point range. As a team, Aurora shot over 61-percent from the field (40-64) and over 51-percent (14-27) from three.

For the Stars, Logan Harris (Pleasant Plains, Ill.) collected his first double-double of the season as he chipped in 12 points and grabbed a game-high ten rebounds.

With the loss, Dominican falls to 0-8 on the season and 0-4 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC). The Stars will look to get on track on Saturday, traveling to Milwaukee, Wis., to take on the MSOE Raiders. Tipoff is slated for 2:00 p.m. at the Kern Center.
