Josh Mayberry (Detroit, Mich.), but came up short against the visiting Rockford University Regents, 83-79 in River Forest on Tuesday night.
Leading 36-33 at the break, the Regents used an 8-2 run to open the second half, opening their largest lead of the night, 44-35, as Scott Suchy scored two of his 14 points on a lay-up with 17:52 to play.
Dominican answered with its own five-point swing, capped by a
Mike Bobek (Orland Hills, Ill.) three and then narrowed the gap to three on their next possession as Bobek knocked down another three to pull to within 46-43 with 13:01 remaining in the second stanza.
The rest of the half followed a similar pattern as the Regents answered every run the Stars made, never letting the lead slip below three.
Rockford shot 31-for-60 from the field, going just 2-for-10 from three-point distance. David Dixon paced the Regents, who improved to 5-1 on the season with the win, with 19 points. Most of Dixon's damage was done at the foul line, where the 6-4 senior went 7-for-9. As a team, Rockford converted on 19 of their 28 attempts from the foul line.
Harris was 11-for-15 from the field to lead four players in double-figures scoring for the Stars in the losing effort. Bobek chipped in a season-high 12 points while
Ryan Risley (Oak Lawn, Ill.) added ten points in his first start of the season.
As a team, Dominican shot 33-for-70 from the field, knocking down eight of 25 attempts from three. The Stars outrebounded the Regents 37-36, grabbing 13 offensive boards, but made just seven trips to the foul line, going 5-for-7.
The loss drops the Stars to 0-6 on the season and 0-2 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC). The Stars return to action on Saturday afternoon, hosting the Lakeland College Muskies for a 2:00 p.m. tipoff in the Igini Sports Forum.
