Slow Start Stalls Stars

For all the early struggles, the Stars only trailed 6-0 when Kevin Tiongson (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) finally knocked down a three for the Stars' first field goal of the game but Lakeland answered with a three from Joey Burris as the Muskies led from start to finish.

The Stars managed to shoot just 35.7-percent from the field, going 25-for-70 including 8-for-22 from three-point range. Dominican also converted on just two of their six attempts from the foul line and committed 17 turnovers.

Freshman Josh Mayberry (Canton, Mich.) continued his strong start to the season for the Stars, scoring a team-high 14 points on 7-for-17 shooting. The Stars' 6-3 guard also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out three assists.

On the opposite end of the floor, the Muskies shot near 45-percent from the field behind Justin Ward's game-high 23 points. The 6-9 Ward also pulled down 12 rebounds for a double-double in the winning effort.
