Box Score In need of a win while battling for positioning in the upcoming Northern Athletics Conference (NAC), the Dominican University men's basketball team dropped a meeting with their River Forest rivals, the Concordia Chicago Cougars, on Wednesday evening 91-81.
After scoring just 49 points in their first meeting between, the Concordia Chicago Cougars jumped out to a 48-33 halftime lead behind 54-percent shooting from the field in the opening frame.
The Cougars built their lead up to 65-45 midway through the second half and then withstood a late rally by the Stars to pick up the win.
The Cougars capitalized on 13 offensive rebounds and ten Dominican turnovers to score 16 second chance points and 18 points off of the Stars' miscues.
Marcus Elston led six players in double-figures for the Cougars with 20 points on 8-for-16 shooting from the field. Khirey Floyd and Tyler Oden dropped in 17 apiece while Brandon Stinson added 12. Joe Person and Taylor Rawlings combined to score 24 off the Cougars' bench.
Dominican was paced by
Anthony Keener's (Carol Stream, Ill.) 20 points.
Taylor DeRoo (Holland, Mich.) added 17 in the losing effort.
The Stars, now 9-14 overall, return to action on Saturday, hosting the Webster University Gorloks in a non-conference tilt. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. in the Igini Sports Forum.
