Stars Blanked By North Park

Box Score The Dominican University men's soccer team fell for the third game in row, dropping a 3-0 decision to the North Park University Vikings on the road Tuesday night.

The Stars managed just seven shots on the night, putting four on frame, while the Vikings ripped 17 shots at Dominican University's goalkeepers, putting eight on goal and finding the back of the net twice in the first 45 minutes and once in the second half.

The Vikings got on the board early as Jonas Pettersson beat the Stars' Wesley Zank (Sun Prairie, Wis.) in the ninth minute of play to give the Vikings an early advantage.

The Vikings extended the lead in the 34th minute as Markus Fodstad ripped a shot from the top of the 18-yard box to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead they'd carry into the second half.

Fodstad then struck again for the Vikings, cleaning up a rebound of a Pettersson shot to round out the evening's scoring.

"Mistakes, mistakes, mistakes," remarked Erick Baumann, the Stars' head coach, when asked about his teams performance against the Vikings. "We continue to make too many mistakes and they continue to end up in the back of the net. We spotted them two first half goals and then decided to work and compete at the start of the second half. We need to put that work rate in from the very first whistle of the game so that we don't find ourselves needing to work out of a deficit."

The loss drops the Stars to 2-3-0 on the season with Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play opening on Saturday when the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons travel down to River Forest. The Stars will be looking to snap their current three-game skid while extending their conference unbeaten streak that stands at 103 matches dating back to October 2004.
