The Dominican University women's tennis team traveled up to Edgewood College on Monday afternoon to take on the Eagles, the preseason favorites to the win the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) championship, in conference action, falling to the Eagles 9-0.
The Stars battled in doubles play, just missing out on claiming two of the three points. The Stars' combo of
Natalie Bestler (Hinsdale, Ill.) and
Megan Hickey (Plainfield, Ill.) took the Eagles to a tiebreaker at number two doubles, falling 9-7, while the Eagles' Laura Olsen and Anna Miles narrowly knocked off Dominican's
Jillian Metcalf (Oak Lawn, Ill.) and
Marbeya Berner (New Lenox, Ill.) at number one doubles 8-5.
Berner then took Miles to a tiebreaker at number two singles, falling 6-7 (7-5), 6-3, 10-6.
The loss drops the Stars to 0-4 overall while Edgewood improves to 2-3. Dominican will return to the courts Saturday, September 7, when the Stars host the MSOE Raiders and Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons for a pair of NACC dual matches in Forest Park.
