Box Score The Dominican University men's soccer team got back to its winning ways on Saturday afternoon, snapping a three-game skid and extending its conference unbeaten streak to 104 matches with a 2-1 win over the visiting Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons to open Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play.
"This was a step in the right direction," said head coach Erick Baumann when asked about his team's performance on Saturday. "We need to keep working and be better from one day to the next."
Logan Marvin (Johnston, Iowa) found the back of the net for the first time this season, scoring what proved to be the game-winner in the 69
th minute after he got on the end of a
Zack Venzon (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) corner kick for a header that beat the Falcons' Eric Vogel inside the near post. Marvin was able to get off seven shots in the match, after totaling just eight shots as the Stars' offense managed just five goals in the first five matches.
"Logan's work rate was fantastic today," said Baumann when asked about his junior captain. "It was nice to see his efforts rewarded with the game-winning goal."
Dominican got on the board first in the NACC grudge match as
RJ Dralle (Oak Brook, Ill.) was opportunistic in netting his second collegiate goal, first of the season, as he collected a rebound of a shot by
Marco Alvarez (Aurora, Ill.) inside the six-yard box.
Concordia Wisconsin answered just moments later as Paul Stuebs ripped a shot from 25-yards out, beating Dominican's
Gabriel Gongora (Naperville, Ill.) with a shot inside the upper-90 after
Alex Rohder (Orland Park, Ill.) had blocked a shot off the foot of the Falcons' Gavin Winston.
Dominican had a 28-15 advantage in shots, putting 11 shots on frame compared to just four shots on goal for the Falcons. Each team earned six corner kicks.
The Stars, now 3-3-0 on the season and 1-0-0 in the NACC, will return to the West Campus Field pitch on Wednesday, hosting the Benedictine University Eagles for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff.
