The Dominican University women's tennis team entered Tuesday's match with the Benedictine University Eagles fighting for a spot in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Women's Tennis Tournament, but is now on the outside looking in after a 7-2 loss at the hands of the Eagles.
The Stars found themselves in a 2-1 hole after doubles play, with just the number three doubles team of
Stephanie Castaneda (Mendota, Ill.) and
Katelyn Ratterman (Carol Stream, Ill.) coming out on top for the Stars with an 8-1 win over BenU's Anna Savio and Anna MacLachlan. The Stars' number two doubles team of
Megan Hickey (Plainfield, Ill.) and
Natalie Bestler (Hinsdale, Ill.) saw its six-match winning streak snapped, falling by a score of 8-3 to Micah Goyao and Bhavana Movva.
Dominican could not dig itself out of the hole, managing just one point in singles action, that coming from
Marbeya Berner (New Lenox, Ill.) at number two singles, 6-3, 6-4, as the junior moved to 6-5 in singles play on the season.
The loss drops the Stars to 4-7 overall and 4-6 in the NACC with just one conference match to play. The Stars will return to the courts on Thursday, playing host to the North Central College Cardinals in non-conference action.
