Stars Downed In NACC Road Action

Box Score The Dominican University women's soccer team had a 2-1 halftime lead slip away on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Marian University Sabres 3-2 in Fond du Lac, Wis.

The Sabres got on the board first as Brittany Syms found the back of the net in the 11th minute but the Stars responded with a pair of goals before the half was up to take a 2-1 lead.

Leah Tednes (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) lifted a shot from 35-yards out and beat the Sabres' goalkeeper to the upper-right corner to even the score at 1-1 in the 34th minute. Kelly Petty (Crystal Lake, Ill.) then gave the Stars a 2-1 lead as she finished a penalty kick in the 43rd minute.

The Sabres evened the score just four minutes into the second half, as Laura Maly found the back of the net for the second time this season. Marian then notched the game-winner in the 66th minute as Leisa Conn took advantage of a free kick for her second score of the year.

The Sabres held a 21-10 advantage in shots, putting ten shots on frame to just five shots on goal for Dominican. The Stars did create a number of set piece opportunities, including holding a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The loss drops the Stars to 0-7-0 on the season and 0-3-0 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play. Dominican's schedule does not get any easier, as the defending NACC champions, the Aurora University Spartans travel to River Forest for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff on Wednesday.
