The Dominican University women's tennis team picked up the first win of the young career of head coach Rebecca Morgan on Saturday morning, knocking off the MSOE Raiders 7-2 in Forest Park before falling to the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons 6-3 in the Stars' nightcap.
Against the Raiders, the bottom of the Stars' lineup carried the load, taking the numbers two and three doubles flights and two through six singles. Dominican's
Megan Hickey (Plainfield, Ill.) and
Natalie Bestler (Hinsdale, Ill.) doubled up the Raiders' number two doubles team of Ashley Albrecht and Michelle Lee, 8-4, while the Stars' number three doubles pairing of
Stephanie Castaneda (Mendota, Ill.) and
Katelyn Ratterman (Carol Stream, Ill.) edged Melanie Avery and Kelsey Weinkauf, 9-7.
In singles action,
Marbeya Berner (New Lenox, Ill.) and Hickey led the Stars' charge, knocking off their respective opponents 6-0, 6-1.
In the loss to the Falcons, the top of the Stars lineup came to life with
Jillian Metcalf (Oak Lawn, Ill.) and Berner pulling out three-set wins at numbers one and two singles respectively, while Hickey and Bestler picked up their second doubles victory of the day.
The split pushes the Stars' record to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC). Dominican will look to improve their mark on Tuesday when they travel to Rockford College to take on the Regents in a NACC matchup.
