Box Score The Dominican University men's basketball team outlasted the Edgewood College Eagles on Saturday afternoon, emerging with a 59-57 win on
Taylor DeRoo's (Holland, Mich.) pull-up jumper with 1.7 seconds to play.
DeRoo broke the 11
th tie of the game after the Eagles' Justin Williams muscled up for two of his eight points to knot the game at 57-57 with 26 seconds to play. Holding for the last shot, the Stars isolated DeRoo at the top of the key and DeRoo pulled up on Edgewood's Dylan Heemstra, burying a seven-footer jumper.
DeRoo shared team-high honors with
Logan Harris (Pleasant Plains, Ill.), scoring 15 points apiece. Harris got off to a hot start, pouring in 11 points on 5-for-6 shooting in the first half while DeRoo scored eight second-half points. Freshman
Josh Mayberry (Canton, Mich.) logged his third double-double of the season as he chipped in 11 points and grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds in the winning effort.
As a team, Dominican shot over 54-percent from the field in the first half, going 13-for-24 from the field, including 3-for-6 from three to take a 33-30 lead at the break. While the Stars cooled off in the second half, Dominican played nearly mistake free during the second half, committing just one turnover during the second half and outrebounding the Eagles 18-17, including grabbing seven offensive rebounds.
The win pushes the Stars to 4-13 overall and 3-10 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC). The Stars will be back in action on Thursday, hosting the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors. Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. in the Igini Sports Forum.
