Stars Pitch Shutout In Road NACC Win

The Dominican University men's soccer team posted a clean sheet and capitalized on their restart opportunities in a 3-0 win over the Aurora University Spartans on Wednesday afternoon in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action.

The Stars earned their first restart just 50 seconds into the match and then turned that into the first goal as Logan Marvin got on the end of Trent Miller's service from near midfield to notch his second goal of the season.

Another Spartans' foul gave Dominican their second scoring opportunity as Aurora's goalkeeper, Zach McFarland took down a Dominican attacker in the box.  Nestor Ascencio buried the ensuing penalty kick to put Dominican on top 2-0 in the 48th minute.

Dominican's third goal came in the 76th minute, capitalizing on one of their five corner kick opportunities.  Trent Miller and Jose Becera picked up assists as Sonny Saiz knocked in his second goal of the season.

"We were lethargic in the first half and didn't settle into the game until the end of the half," said Erick Baumann when asked about his team's win.  "We made some adjustments at the half and played more to what we need to do as a team to be successful.  We also took advantage of our opportunities and capitalized on our restarts."

The Stars outshot the Spartans 11-4 in a match that featured 39 fouls and six cautions.

Goalkeepers Gabriel Gongora and Zach Watson combined to post the Stars' third shutout of the season.

With the win, Dominican moves to 5-4-2 on the season and 3-1-0 in the NACC.  The Stars return home to host the Lakeland College Muskies on Saturday as part of Dominican University's homecoming festivities.  The match is slated for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff at West Campus Field.
