The Dominican University women's soccer team fell in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action on Saturday afternoon, suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Edgewood College Eagles in Madison, Wisconsin.
Â
The Stars outshot the Eagles 13-5 and put eight of their shots on goal, but the Eagles proved to be opportunistic, notching a goal in each half while keeping the ball out of the back of their own net for the sixth time this season.
Â
Liz Darkow tallied what proved to be the game-winning goal in just the eighth minute of play as she ripped a shot past Dominican's
Sara Stepanovich (Des Plaines, Ill.) after the Eagles won a 50-50 ball near the top of the Dominican 18-yard box.
Â
The score remained 1-0 into the second half until the Eagles tacked on an insurance goal in the 51
st minute as Taylor Pampuch found the back of the goal for the eighth time this season.
Â
Leah Tednes (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) and
Kelli Iovino (Arlington Heights, Ill.), Dominican's leading goal scorers on the season with seven and eight goals respectively, were limited to just two shots apiece in the loss.
Â
Dominican now stands at 7-6-0 on the season and 4-3-0 in the NACC. The Stars will take a break from conference play, heading to Ripon, Wisconsin, to take on the Ripon College Red Hawks on Wednesday before returning home to host the North Central College Cardinals next Saturday.
