Stars Blank Inferno To Secure NACC Tournament Berth

The Dominican University women's soccer team rolled past the Alverno College Inferno, scoring ten goals in a shutout victory to move to 10-7-0 on the season and 6-3-0 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC).  With the win, the Stars secured a spot in the NACC Tournament that opens play on Saturday, November 1.

In total, seven players scored for the Stars in the winning effort led by Kelli Iovino (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and Leah Tednes (Hoffman Estates, Ill.), the team's leading scorers on the season.  Iovino notched her first hat trick of the season, with two goals in the first half before scoring the first goal of the second half.  Tednes netted a pair of first half goals and now has 11 goals on the season, trailing just Iovino who has 14.

Nathalie Mathis (Wauconda, Ill.), Wendy Sanchez (El Paso, Texas), Ashly Torres (Franklin Park, Ill.), Kaitlyn Tripp (Imperial, Mo.) and Lauren Zuro (Elmwood Park, Ill.) also scored for the Stars as Dominican peppered the Alverno College goal with 43 shots, 24 on goal.

Defensively, Dominican surrendered just two shots, allowing one on goal that was saved by Vanessa Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill.) who shared time in goal with Sara Stepanovich (Des Plaines, Ill.) for the combined shutout, the eighth shutout of the season for the Stars.

Dominican has one regular season match remaining, traveling down Division Street to take on its River Forest rival, the Concordia University Chicago Cougars.  With a win, Dominican can wrap up the four-seed in the NACC Tournament and earn the right to host a conference tournament quarterfinal match on Saturday, November 1.
