The Dominican University men's basketball team hung with the University of Chicago Maroons for nearly 30 minutes before Chicago closed out the game on a 23-8 run en route to a 70-48 win over the Stars in the Igini Sports Forum on Tuesday night.

Dominican used a 7-0 run, capped by a
Josh Mayberry (Canton, Mich.) three-pointer, to take a 16-15 lead with 7:04 remaining in the first half.

Chicago then used an 11-2 run to pull back ahead 26-18 with three minutes to play in the half but the Stars trimmed the lead back down to four, 28-24, on Mayberry's lay-in at the buzzer.

Chicago scored the first 11 points of the second half, opening a 39-24 lead with 16:29 to play.

Dominican chipped away at the lead, pulling to within seven, 43-36, on
Quinn Pokora's (Mundelein, Ill.)Â three-point jumper with 13:04 to play but that was as close as the Stars would get.

Dominican was led by Mayberry's 15 points on 6-for-13 shooting from the field, including going 1-for-4 from three-point distance. Pokora added ten points, going 2-for-4 from three, while freshmen
Tim Robertson (Chicago, Ill.) and
Rasim Prasovic (Chicago, Ill.) chipped in eight points apiece in the losing effort.

The Stars shot 36.5-percent from the field (16-for-45), going 4-for-13 from three.

For Chicago, Nate Brooks scored a game-high 20 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field and 6-for-12 shooting from the foul line.

The Maroons shot over 44-percent from the field but managed to convert on just 16 of 33 attempts from the foul line.

The loss drops Dominican to 0-2 on the season with the Stars hosting the Greenville College Panthers on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in the Igini Sports Forum.
