Stars Fall Prey To Panthers

In a game that featured 13 lead changes and seven ties in the first half, the Greenville College Panthers used a 17-3 run late in the second half to put the Dominican University men's basketball team out of reach en route to a 97-84 loss for the Stars.
 
With the Panthers leady 78-73 with just under nine minutes to play in the second half, Greenville scored the next eight points, holding the Stars scoreless for a two minute stretch to open an 86-73 lead and never looked back.
 
Dominican shot an even 50-percent from the field (30-60) and from three (9-18) but committed 19 turnovers that led to 28 points off of turnovers for Greenville who shot a shade above 50-percent from the field (35-67), scoring 50 points in the paint.
 
Josh Mayberry (Canton, Mich.) led three in double-digit scoring for the Stars with 18 points in the losing effort.  Mayberry was 8-for-13 from the field, including 2-for-3 from beyond the three-point arc.  Quinn Pokora (Mundelein, Ill.) and Tim Robertson (Chicago, Ill.) added 17 points each while Rich Bodee (Darien, Ill.), Tyler Reddington (Logansport, Ind.) and Pharoh Johnson (Detroit, Mich.) all chipped in eight points off the bench.
 
Nick Trisko scored 19 points off the Panthers' bench to lead all scorers.  Tim Daniel added 18 while Ron Harris and Andrew Scott scored 17 and 12 respectively.
 
Greenville won the battle of the boards, pulling down 38 rebounds while Dominican managed 29.  The Panthers snagged 18 offensive rebounds leading to 20 second chance points while the Stars converted 12 offensive rebounds into ten second chance points.
 
Dominican falls to 0-3 with the loss.  The Stars will look to get in the win column when they open Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play on Tuesday, November 25.  Dominican travels up to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to take on the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the REX Center.
