Championship Saturday Returns To Dominican

The Dominican University department of athletics will play host to the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) men's soccer and women's volleyball tournament on Saturday, November 8, after both teams knocked off Aurora University in their respective tournament semifinals.  This will be the fourth time since 2009 that Dominican University will host both tournament championships and the ninth straight year the Stars will host the NACC Men's Soccer Tournament championship match.

The action kicks off on West Campus Field at 12:00 p.m. with Dominican hosting the MSOE Raiders.  The Stars, who went 9-1-0 during the NACC regular season, shared the regular season crown with the Raiders but won the teams' head-to-head meeting 2-1 in double overtime.  Saturday's winner claims the NACC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer National Tournament while the loser puts their fate in the hands of the tournament's selection committee, hoping to garner one of the 18 Pool C bids from the around the nation.

Following the NACC men's soccer championship, the action moves indoors to the Igini Sports Forum where the Stars will host the Edgewood College Eagles in the NACC Championship match at 6:00 p.m.  The Stars, the top seed in the tournament after going 11-0 in NACC play, topped the Eagles in three sets back on October 4.  The Eagles are making their fourth consecutive appearance in the conference championship match while Dominican looks to garner its fourth bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball National Tournament in the last five years.

Dominican and Edgewood have met twice previously with the NACC Tournament Championship on the line with the Stars winning in Madison in 2013 and the Eagles winning in River Forest back in 2011.

Championship Saturday could be the crowning jewel what has been an extremely successful Fall season for Dominican University Athletics.  In total, Dominican's team sports have posted a 56-30-2 overall mark through Friday and went 34-7-0 in NACC play.  All four teams qualified for their respective conference tournaments with the women's soccer team falling in the NACC semifinals and the women's tennis tournament to be played in April.

Admission to both championship events on Saturday is free with live coverage available on the Stars' website at www.DUstars.com
