Box Score The Dominican University men's basketball team dropped their 2013-2014 season finale on Wednesday evening, falling to their River Forest rivals, the Concordia University Chicago Cougars, 92-84, despite 26 points from freshman guard
Josh Mayberry (Canton, Mich.) who went 7-for-9 from behind the three-point line.
Mayberry was limited to just five points in the opening half, playing just ten minutes with two fouls as the Stars trailed 34-30 at the break.
Mayberry knocked down his first triple of the night to cut the Cougars' lead to 34-33 with 18:37 to play in the second half before the Cougars went on a 8-0 run over the next minute and a half to push their lead back to nine, 42-33, and never led by less the four the rest of the way.
Mayberry finished 9-for-14 from the field, adding five rebounds before fouling out with 57 seconds remaining.
Seniors
Taylor DeRoo (Holland, Mich.),
Kevin Tiongson (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) and
Kyle Sherwin (White Lake, Mich.) all reached double figures scoring for the Stars in the final game of their respective collegiate careers. DeRoo finished with 16 points while Tiongson added 14 points, ten in the first half, and Sherwin chipped in ten in the losing effort.
The Stars committed 19 turnovers leading to 24 points off of turnovers for the Cougars.
Concordia Chicago shot 72 percent from the field in the second half, 18-for-25, including 3-for-6 from three.
Brandon Stinson and Mike Walmer shared team-high honors for the Cougars with 19 points apiece.
The Stars close the 2013-2014 season with a 4-21 overall record, going 3-17 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play.
